Petroleum production is one of the toughest jobs in the world—not only for those who are exposed to Arctic temperatures in Siberia or thundering North Sea waves, but also for the materials involved that must withstand temperature, pressure, petroleum, hydraulic fluids, and corrosive media such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. And the industry faces the prospect of having to deal with even higher temperatures and pressures. VESTAMID^® L, a polyamide 12 from Evonik with many years of proven performance in automotive line systems, has now also been shown to be able to meet the extremely demanding requirements of crude oil and gas production. For these industries we offer, in addition to polyamide compounds, VESTAKEEP^® PEEK high-performance compounds.

Our new VESTAMID^® grades for the oil and gas industries are specifically designed for the manufacture of large-bore pipes. They show highly consistent and unwavering processing behavior, and due to their high melt rigidity, allow production of large-bore piping with strictly constant diameter.

VESTAMID^® PA 12, with the properties below, is suitable for petroleum production and is distinguished from other materials such as PA 11 by the following attributes:

• higher hydrolytic resistance
• improved methanol resistance
• excellent creep behavior
• high ductility even at low temperatures
• ease of processing without pre-drying
• constant melt rigidity

Areas of Application

VESTAMID^® is used in the following applications:

• In flexible lines it serves as a barrier layer for sheathing and abrasion protection.
• Multilayer pipe solutions with VESTAMID^® and other functional layers for piping in supply lines (umbilicals) are distinguished by their specific property spectrum.
• VESTAMID^® is also suitable as liner material for lining new pipes as well as renovating old systems. The corrosion protection that this offers improves the quality of the system.
